This site is an extension of Shoon around-the-Clock, the Live Journal community devoted to Yamashita Shoon, a Japanese idol of JE (Johnny's Entertainment) and member of the group Ya-Ya-yah.

The purpose of this site is to make Shoon better known, so if you are a fan and want to share with the world your reasons for liking him, send an e-mail to this address or post it at Shoon around-the-Clock, tagging it as "reason". =]

he has warm hands

I'm in love with Shoon's hands. I truly am. They seem warm hands. I don't know if you can tell just from the look, but to me they look warm. And together with that air of inner peace Shoon has, if he was a character in a Dragonlance type of story I'm sure his hands would have healing powers. LOL

He's such a gentle guy. I found this pic at Moonlighboy.com (where else? Seriously, where does that girl get these pics from? *is jealous*) some time ago and everytime I look at it the first thing that comes to my mind is "this boy radiates peace". It's the look in his face, the way he holds that fan's hands in his. *is even more jealous*

And then there was that 2003 TV show episode in which they had to get an old lady to agree to be their fiance ( ... ^^U ) and the old lady who chose Shoon took his hand and patted it. *feels jealous yet again* She said that she chose him because he is tall and he seems like a good boy. I think she just didn't want to admit that she thought he was the cutest. LOL

he's just that contagious

Shoon's probably more contagious that SARS or avian flu (what a bad analogy)

when he smiles, you want to smile with him
when he laughs, he makes you laugh with him
when he doesn't fake a smile, it makes you want to be true to yourself
when he's strong, he makes you stronger
when he works hard, he makes you want to strive toward your goals

there are so many more, but it would just crowd up the page. But perhaps this is just part of the reason why I love Shoon, because Shoon is just that amazing combination that sometimes just makes everything alright, like how they sang on LiveStage "I find the things that you do, will make me feel alright".

Unlike the others... I do not have time to prepare a pic of Shoon ;__;. I had been rused with school activities(dances) which have taken a tole on my PC time TT_TT. The Dances involved like...4 hours of practice each day while having to keep up with our studies. I got through it all since I kept thinking "If Shoon can do it... I might be able too" XDDDD.

Whenever I see Shoon dance, host, act, MODEL etc. I really see that he gives it his all even when he seems to be having a bit of difficulty with it. He's been able to finish his studies and keep his activities in Johnnys. I'm seriously amazed by him seeing as how school in Japan is WAAAAAY TOUGHER than our schools here(*is in high school*).

I'm inspired by him to work hard and give it my all. Even if I find it hard to accomplish some of my tasks(ie studying, supposedly dancing XDDD, doing PE) I think "Ah... just just... put up with it and show them that you're even better than what they expect.", which I adapted from wanting to be able to work as hard as Shoon in what I do.

Even now I think it affects me, now that Ya-Ya-Yah is well..... and Shoon's activities have decreased so much, I still see him trying to put a smile on. I see him working hard. Maybe somewhere in the back of his mind there's like some voice saying "I'll still be able to do it!!". Whether or not he gets little screen time now he still does his best.

When I saw him sing solo(well not really *killed* more like they focused him well FOR ONCE) during the 12/02/2007 Shounen Club, a tear fell from my eye. I was so happy for him. I was touched. Even if if was only like 5 seconds, seeing him at his best makes me smile. It gets me through the rest of the week too XDDD.

like boycottbananas, Shoon was the reason i got interested in JE. but, as i came to know more about this Japanese boy who is two years older than me, i became not only really obsessed with him and the group he was in, but i also really respected him as a person. well, i guess i really owe it all to the awesomely wonderful people who upload and Ya3 episodes or translate Ya3's pages in various magazines. because that is really how i learned about Shoon, and his natural strength. i guess by strength what i mean is his... steadfastness [is that even a word? XD;].

i mean, we all know at least some stuff about him, like how he's really caring [like the big brother of Ya3, or being a real onii-chan for Reon] and talented [singing, dancing, guitar, bass... being able to tell the kind of tea just by taste! ^^] and genuine [not afraid to not smile for the camera]. but i think maybe the reason i love him best is because he's stood up for himself throughout... 6 years [is that right? 2001-now, ne?] of being a Johnny.

he withstood all of the ups and downs of his group; through Ando and Yoshida, then Akama and Hoshino, leaving; the new addition of Hikaru; the competitive life of a Johnny, along with going to school; the outside JE works of West Side Story and Satomi Hakkenden; his graduation from high school; the ordeals of Kitty, HS7, and now HSJ; and yet through 6 years of various things, he's still here. as Taiyo left JE to... pursue other things, Shoon stayed strong and continues on, despite Ya-Ya-yah's disbandment and seeming very alone in... i guess the whole Juniors thing. but, somehow, he finds the will to continue what he started. so my reason is not because of physical strength, but because of a strong heart. (強いな心)

Relaxed, Randomly Responsive, Responsible and he the fact that he has Reon :)

We all know, Shoon is this special guy who is always going on his own pace. He laughs when he is happy, refuses to smile when he dont want to. On the stage, in front of cameras... where ever he may be he is going on his "MY PACE". When everyone is trying to steal some camera time, showing their best when the camera is around, Shoon stays where is he suppose to be, being himself. Others may think this is stupid and not exactly what an idol should be like but they are wrong. Because this is just Shoon and his beautiful character... Even his favourite pet, the sloth, is like him :) Everything of Shoon is so relaxed that it attracts my attention.

Have you ever been so amused by Shoon? His reactions, his speech, his expressions, his responses... I have. And there were too many incident that i couldn't even list them all :) Adorable kid he is... April 8th 2007 - Shounen Club, he has the most amusing expressions i ever remember. Especially when all of them had to take turns to pump air into the other group's balloon.

Our dearest Shoon came out once and pump it twice. That's all! And after this, his attempt to hide behind Yodogawa... Who would have thought Yamashita Shoon is this timid<3 Minutes of cuteness i'll say... Every random responses from Shoon are so amusing that it attracts my attention.

人に優しく、自分に厳しく。
This is his favourite sentence. Be lenient to others and strict to oneself. This boy here we're talking about is only 18 years old. Tell me how many 18year olds could actually think that this sentence is right and understand the morale within it? In my honest opinion, even myself, dont... Shoon has always (in my memory) said that his strength is "Always finishing things that he started" This answer has always been the same whenever we see a new profile of shoon. This is what i see as a responsible person, it is just so simple. What do you think? Every responsibility he take cares of so well attracts my attention :)

Yamashita Reon... With him around, shoon is twice as adorable as we thought he is! In the latest issue of Potato (2008 January) there was this question asking both of them 「When is the moment when you would think it is great to be brothers with each other?」 Guess what was shoon's answer? Well, come on... you know it! XD

Rough translation... Shoon was very happy and was thinking "I'm so blessed to have such a cute little brother" when one day Reon came home with the dango(s) he made in home economics class in school offering it to Shoon saying "I want Shoon to try these" *melts* Did you melted upon this? I did... I never had a loving borther to start with so i would never understand how sweet this can be but seeing yamashita kyoudai, i think, i know. Every bit of love he gives to Reon attracts my attention.

Now, did his 5 Rs attract your attention as much as it does for me? =D

yep, i talk to myself... a lot... i think it's been keeping me sane all this time :)so, i continued doing some school work... a day passed... another... another... another... until i forgot all about the contest... then came this day...

i'm feeling somewhat down because i failed to perform my responsibilities properly and i had to pay for it today (i think...). i keep telling myself i'm not sad, i'm not down, and all that but my heart feels heavy (literally) for some reason i'm not really sure of because feeling this way is something seldom for me.

sure i was scolded by a lot of people today and i had to apologize to a lot of people too, but then, something like this doesn't usually make me sad. on my way home, i found myself hoping i'd find a full bottle of brandy in the cupboard where my dad usually keeps them (i'm 17, i know...) and i did find an unopened one but i ditched the idea so i went straight to my room...

i laid on my bed for i don't know how long, i still have a lot to do but i can't bring myself to sit up and start doing them... then i remembered a hobby i've stopped doing for about a year now ~ drawing... i used to draw when i feel down so i thought of doing a quick sketch... every time this stressful day threw something at me, i thought of Shoon and somehow, hope came... yep, i felt as if Shoon was actually there cheering me on ("go on!")... thinking of how i went through the day with him in my mind, i started sketching... [click on the picture to see it full size]

i remembered the contest and checked it again... the theme is "give me a reason". i ditched all the work i should be doing right now...i don't care... it's about time i do something i want to do... so here's mine:

Shoon is just great. Words, images, nothing could definitely describe why he is such (this is something not so new right?). but what makes him different from others is his "realness". "realness" because even if he's far away and the chances of me actually meeting him is as bare as my social life (:]), when i'm down, i feel as if he's near, and that nearness gives me a ray of hope to stand up and start again (and i'm sure i'm not the only one in this fandom who feels like this).

i fangirl over other idols, whom i know more about Shoon, but his "realness" makes me feel like i don't have to know him more...his smiles, his charm, and that's it... yeah, all the way from Japan, i feel him here... he exists not just in my mind but in real life...just around me, always cheering me on... i've never felt someone who is so far away, someone who doesn't even know i exist, be so solid and true... he's real, his mere existence makes me go on, and that's all the reason i need...

I thought of having my reason be that he was the one person to introduce me to the wonderful world of Johnny's Juniors. I remember reading about Satomi Hakkenden, the person saying how the story was similar to Fushigi Yuugi. Being a huge fan of that manga, I decided to check it out. I went to its dramawiki page and literally, just stopped breathing for a minute or two. There, in the little poster, I saw one of the cutest guys ever. And no, it wasn't Takki. It was Shoon.

I downloaded, watched, enjoyed, and fangirled Satomi Hakkenden, squealing every time Shoon appeared. He was a pretty good actor. I found out he was in Ya-Ya-yah, listened to their music, fell in love. Learned that Ya-Ya-yah was a Junior band of Johnny's, so I researched other Junior bands, listened and watched them, fell in love even more. The rest is history.

To be honest, I really was racking my brain, wondering why I liked Shoon so much. Shoon is just simply, Shoon, and I don’t think anyone, ever, will be able to explain what’s so great about him. He's indescribable~~ lol.

Yuki-chan doesn’t know about you, but whenever anyone sees a picture of Shoon-chan (someone who isn’t a Japanese crazed person, that is XD) they ALWAYS think he’s a girl!

I love how he’s such a pretty boy (^o^) but he still has an air of a boy nonetheless, like that wonderful episode where Ya-ya-yah was in Chinatown and they had to dress up in those Chinese dresses! *points to picture below*

I mean we all know what Shoon's arms are like... *gets all spacey* Oh! I mean... look how pretty he is yet he’s still a boy XD lol. No one could pull off the girl look like our pretty Shoon-chan who’s still super cool!

When we think of Shoon, we think of someone who is so cool, even for a Junior. He has this air about him that just makes you drool all over him. He's so mature for his age, even when he doesn't look anything like his age. We see the older brother to Ya-Ya-yah, the awesome acrobat, and the cool dancer. But we forget that he tends to act younger then he really is. And that's what I love about him. That no matter how cool and hot he looks, he will always be a child at heart. I adore the fact that as much as he tries to keep that kakkoi mask on, it tends to break and show us the real Shoon underneath. Whenever I see that adorkable smile, I can't help but smile back because I wish to be there with him to enjoy that childish moment, if only for a second.

he has it. the it that can not be put into words.
shoon was the man who introduced me to the whole johnny's jr. world.
he made me sit up all night, watching old ya-ya-yah clips from 2003.
he opened up a whole new world to me. i don't love him only because he did that, though.
his dancing. singing. acting. his talent. he has the it that no other, that i know of, have.
his smile. his sparkling eyes. his voice. the way he moves.
just watching him smile makes me feel like the happiest girl on earth.
the way he can just, fill you up with warmth by just doing this simple action.
showing a simple emotion.

these might not be enough reasons for you to love him, but it is to me.
he is a nice boy, and the world needs more love.♥

On last Saturday's show, Shoon and Taiyô help a kid called Manaya make a wooden bench for his parents. Manaya and his dad like baseball, and Shoon has an idea to make the bench more special. This is a short clip of that moment subbed by me. =]

When it comes to backflips... Shoon is the real deal. ;) This is from the 2005.07.29 performance of NEWS and Ya-Ya-yah in Music Station. Notice how Kusano needed help from Tegoshi to do the backflip, while Shoon did it all on his own. =p [note: You can watch the whole performance and download it together with an mp3 rip here]

When Shoon was younger he was a little crazy. This is a clip from 2003 of Ya-Ya-yah's weekly TV show in which you can see him dancing like crazy.

Now Shoon has grown up and is a laid-back, cool guy, but that adorable, nutty side of his character still comes out now and then. =) This is a clip from Shônen Club (2007.02.04) in which he ducks under other juniors to twirl in the middle like a ballerina. XD
